RSHE Curriculum
In July 2019, The Department for Education released a document changing the previous Sex and Relationship (SRE) guidance to the new Relationships, Sex and Health guidance (RSHE).
The curriculum is designed to equip your child with knowledge to make informed decisions about their wellbeing, health and relationships as well as preparing them for a successful adult life. The world for all young people looks very different from the way it did 20 years ago when this curriculum was last updated – these changes bring the content into the 21st century, so that it is relevant for your child.
The curriculum equips pupils with an age-appropriate understanding of the importance of stable and loving relationships, respect, love and care for family life. By law, primary schools are required to teach relationships and health education, alongside the National Curriculum for Science and within the context of Safeguarding.
Consultation
At St. James’ we acknowledge that parents and carers will want to be informed in what we are teaching our pupils in this area – and should be part of our planning process.
